Useful Uses of the Oregano Plant

Thank you from Hana with much appreciations!!!

Important Uses of the Oregano Plant

Ore

Useful uses of the Oregano plant from Karen Ferrie

….. ***…..

” I have harvested oregano to dry for soups and sauces. I have used fresh in olive oil to make an infusion. It is very good in pure oil form for upper respiratory illnesses.
Tips: Just a couple of drops to the tongue or put it in some juice or water.
I use it in tomato based sauces:
Procedure:
So saute onion, celery, peppers, and your herbs in dry form use 1/3 of fresh. I would add 1-2 tablespoons each of oregano and basil and parsley (if dried use 1-2 teaspoons) add 8 fresh tomatoes peeled and seeded if you prefer but i just use them with core removed. Add a can of tomato paste 150ml and 150ml water. Bring to boil and simmer to desired consistency.
In  chicken soup – I add herbs with the stock 3 tablespoons to each 8 cup volume increase or decrease to your liking.” March 7th, 7:53pm

Oregano Oil – While it may not be the most accessible of the home remedies for sinus infection, oregano oil can be an effective sinus infection treatment. Not only could you simply ingest the oregano oil, but the oil can also be steamed and inhaled over a stove (with eyes closed). In addition to being a potential treatment for sinus infection, oregano oil benefits may also help to improve digestion, aid in fighting infections, and improve biological function – especially in the liver and colon.

How to mash cauliflower

How to mash cauliflower

Best way to eat cauliflower to maximize nutrients is to eat it raw. However, for those who don’t like the crunch or taste,  mashed cauliflower will do.

Cauliflower recipe

Ingredients:
1 large head cauliflower
5 garlic cloves
1/3 cup fresh herbs (chives / basil / oregano)
 Salt to taste

Directions:

1. Chop cauliflower into smaller chunks – about bite-size pieces

2. Peel garlic cloves and cut in half, lengthwise.

3. Steam cauliflower and garlic for 15 minutes..or until cauliflower and garlic are tender enough for a fork to easily pass through.

4. Combine steamed cauliflower, garlic, fresh herbs, and sea salt in a food processor or a strong blender and blend until everything comes together into a mashed potato-like consistency – it’s quite good smooth or slightly chunky. Alternatively, you can mash everything together by hand with a potato masher or a fork.

Enjoy this delicious and healthy mashed cauliflower dish.

Notes on Cauliflower

Cauliflower florets are the part of the plant that most people eat. However, the stem and leaves are edible too and are especially good for adding to soup stocks.

To cut cauliflower, first remove the outer leaves and then slice the florets at the base where they meet the stalks. You can further cut them, if you desire pieces that are smaller or of uniform size. Trim any brown coloration that may exist on the edges.

Nachos: Something about Nachos

Nachos: Something you may not know about nachos

‘… He took some tortillas and sliced them into wedges, grated some cheese over them and placed them under a broiler. He added a sliced jalapeño and served it.’  – The Nachos was born.

This is great. Please continue reading—

In 1943 a group of army wives from south Texas went across the border for dinner. They arrived at the restaurant after the kitchen had closed for the night. The maitre d’ went back into the kitchen looking for what he could serve. He took some tortillas and sliced them into wedges, grated some cheese over them and placed them under a broiler. He added a sliced jalapeño and served it … yap! This is how the Nachos was born.

*** Special tips on Nachos from the ‘Rantings of an Amateur Chefs’

His Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

2. In a 12 inch skillet over medium heat, cook and stir the garlic and white parts of the green onions in canola oil until tender. Mix in shredded chicken, salt and pepper. Toss until well coated with oil. Stir in the salsa.

3. Arrange tortilla chips on a large baking sheet. Spoon the chicken mixture over tortilla chips. Top with Cheddar/Monterey Jack cheese blend and tomato. Bake in the preheated oven 10 minutes, or until cheese has melted. Remove from heat and sprinkle with green onion tops before serving.

My thanks to Rantings of an Amateur Chefs for his blog. Sharing a lot of food  recipes  on palatable, yummy dishes! All the best with lots of thanks to your postings Chef.

Making Nachos seem so easy to do. The 3 basic steps from ‘Rantings of an Amateur chefs”gave me the confidence to try making my Nachos one day, in my own kitchen:-

the way I understand …

Making Nachos Three Steps

Cook the onions and jalapeño first.

Add in the chicken….

Out of the oven….

Yap! one day I can create my own nachos in my own kitchen.

Special notes on Turmeric  (Thanks to the Source)

*** One of the main healthful ingredients in turmeric is curcumin (a curcuminoid), which is said, gives turmeric its yellow color.

Western scientists first isolated the curcumin molecule in 1815, obtained its crystalline form in 1870, and determined its overall structure in 1910.

Curcumin can potentially benefit you by:

  • Promoting your immune system*
  • Helping you maintain your healthy digestive system*
  • Supporting your healthy bones, joints, and overall skeletal system*
  • Helping you maintain cholesterol levels that are already within the normal range*
  • Promoting your healthy blood and liver functions*

*** And the ancient Polynesians carried turmeric with them on their incredible voyage across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii. Today, Hawaiians still use this spice — known to them as Olena.

*** Turmeric is best to be taken fresh for health.

~TIPS~ Jazz it up by adding lots of spices, herbs and a variety of veggies. This makes enough for about 3 days. Keeps well in the fridge for about 3 day.

The brief overview of the diet plan.

Day 1- Eat nothing but fruit today (except for bananas) and as much of the diet cabbage soup as you’d like. I like to eat baked cinnamon apples in the morning, alarge fruitsalad and cabbage soup for lunch, and cabbage soup and a melon salad for dinner. I snack on fruit throughout the day, usually frozen berries, grapes and watermelon.

Day 2- Eat nothing but vegetables (except corn or other starchy veggies). However, you do get to start the day with a baked potato. You will LOVE having this baked potato trust me! I never thought I’d be so happy to eat a baked potato in the morning! I put a tad bit of salt and butter (I cheat) on the potato along with some broccoli and tomatoes. For lunch I do the cabbage soup and salad sprinkle with salt, pepper and olive oil. This is actually pretty good. For dinner I do mashed cauliflower topped with a stir fry.

Day 3-  Today you eat fruits AND veggies (except bananas, corn and other starchy veggies) You alsodon’t get a potato today, sucks! I just do a repeat of day one and two for my foods.

Day 4- Today you eat only bananas and milk/yogurt. This is the DUMBEST day by far. I hate it. You can only have bananas and milk. I eat bananas, rice milk, almond milk and yogurts and of course themiraclesoup. It’s not that difficult, but if you hate bananas I feel sorry for you boo.

Day 5-  Today eat only tomatoes (6-8) and protein like fish, turkey and chicken. I had no problems with this day since I love meat and was happy to get it! I had wonder  soup for breakfast and added extra tomatoes since I don’t like tomatoes plain that much. For lunch I had grilled chicken topped with tomatoesseasonedwith salt, basil, pepper. For dinner I had more wonder soup, but I add ground seasoned turkey to it. Very filling. I got tired of the soup on this day.

Day 6-  Today it’s protein and veggies- Unlike yesterday you can have other veggies besides tomatoes. I had a salad for breakfast seasoned with olive oil, spices, salt and pepper. For lunch I had a stir-fry with chicken, spices and veggies (so good) for lunch I had a spaghetti squash with pasta sauce and ground turkey. I think spaghetti squash is off limits but I had to have it! (it didn’t effect my weight loss) Today was so yummy! lol

Day 7-  Today it’s just fruits, vegetables, and juices. Booo!!! I hated this day because I wanted more meat, but I was glad it was the last day. The scale says I’m 7poundslighter this morning so that was great to see. I feel clean inside. I’m hungry today though. REALLY HUNGRY!

Day 8- 10lbs down this morning and I can see it!!
